A Customer Says It Best…
Often times, a customer says something that perfectly summarizes our services and programs. Recently, this happened with one of our industrial customers and we are eager to share his thoughts with all of you.
The plant engineer promoted our program to his staff by succintly saying,
“We can choose to purchase a solution or to buy a series of activities that we hope will lead to a solution.”
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves…
Congratulations!
Congratulations are in order for Way Service, Ltd.

Van Vleck ISD Teams up with Way Engineering Service to Reduce Operational Budget
VAN VLECK, Texas – By the start of the 2011 school year, Van Vleck ISD will be able to showcase their upgraded infrastructure. With limited capital and old buildings, VVISD was struggling to fund needed repairs. John O’Brien, Superintendent and former student of Van Vleck ISD, began looking for a unique way to upgrade the district’s infrastructure, while also reducing their energy and operational costs. After learning more about Way Engineering Service’s Performance Contracting program, O’Brien knew it was the only solution.
Sarah Roper, Principal at E. Rudd Intermediate School, explained, “We have 400 kids that use the gym with no air conditioning. Something needs to be done.”
The district upgrades include heating and air conditioning for the gym, as well as 39 new units of air conditioning, a campus-wide lighting upgrade, and a new roof and windows for the high school. Before the inefficient, antiquated equipment was replaced, VVISD was scheduled to pay close to $4 million in utility bills in the next 10 years.
Superintendent John O’Brien said, “We will generate an annual savings in excess of $150,000 from this program. The program is funded entirely out of the savings that are generated which enables us to save our capital. Furthermore, we are improving the environment for our students. The decision to partner with Way Engineering Service was clear.”
Research shows that schools that are well-lit, properly ventilated, and in good repair, create a healthy and comfortable learning environment which greatly influence performance, attendance and test scores.

San Jacinto Council scouts for a partner to do things their Way
HOUSTON – The Way Companies and the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council (GSSJC) celebrated their successful partnership with a $27,000 rebate check, an Energy Star certification and plaque presentation, and a green energy lesson for a troop of Girl Scout Cadettes (6th graders). GSSJC partnered with Way amid concerns about high utility bills, inefficient lighting systems and antiquated mechanical equipment. Way provided GSSJC with a program that allows the council to pay for the infrastructure upgrades through guaranteed energy savings.
“The energy efficiency upgrade that Way Companies facilitated has generated a substantial operational savings for our Council,” said Jon Maxwell, administrative services director for the Girl Scouts of San Jacinto Council. “As part of Way Companies’ ongoing partnership with us, it will facilitate activities directed at teaching our members how to use resources wisely, including an energy audit on our Houston Girl Scout Center that will highlight the upgrades that were completed on the facility and the impact it will have on our environment.”
GSSJC is proud to announce it is now Energy Star certified, exemplifying the importance of energy efficiency and environmental impact, setting an example for the 100 other councils around the country. According to the Energy Star Certification database, GSSJC is the only Girl Scout Council to have received this recognition.
Larry Jones, General Manager for the Way Companies, explained, “We are thrilled to partner with such an influential and honorable non-profit that doesn’t just ‘talk- the-talk.’ We thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to give back and educate a troop of 6th graders about the importance of energy efficiency.”
An annual savings of $174,000 are projected.

Hempstead ISD receives needed improvements
HEMPSTEAD, Texas – With school budgets being cut all over Texas, Hempstead ISD, like many others, needed to find a way to upgrade their infrastructure without using any upfront capital. Fortunately, Way Companies’ Green Solutions Team was able to help the district replace their outdated lighting, inefficient and antiquated heating and air conditioning equipment, and provide Hempstead the necessary resources to better control its campus.
Gene Glover, Superintendent of Hempstead ISD, said, “Way has been able to fund in excess of one million dollars of equipment upgrades by using our current operational budget. The whole process has been simple and well-organized. We can’t say enough good things about the service and program Way delivered.”
According to the U.S. Department of Education, school-age children are at high risk of developing asthma, learning disabilities, and complications from exposure to toxic chemicals, because of environmental factors such as lighting, temperatures, and building ventilation. Senate Bill 12 and House Bill 3693 require all school districts to establish a goal to reduce annual electric consumption by five percent each fiscal year. Larger school districts have been using Performance Contracting programs to reach this goal, but the smaller districts often do not know about this tool.
Larry Jones, General Manager with the Way Companies, said, “We are excited that we were able to help Hempstead ISD create a better learning environment while cutting their operational budget. We understand the need for programs that positively impact schools without requiring upfront capital.”
The project was completed the first week of April and will generate $175,000 annually for 15 years. Way Companies guarantees the project will self-fund.
